Java Developer - Chester, UK
Location: Chester, UK
Full-Time Role with Ascendion
🏢 Hybrid – 3 days per week on-site
We are looking for an experienced Java Developer to join a banking technology team, working on the development, modernisation and optimisation of enterprise applications.
The ideal candidate will have strong Java and Spring Boot experience, along with hands-on expertise in JVM tuning and application restructuring.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain enterprise applications using Java and Spring Boot
- Restructure and modernise existing applications to improve performance, scalability and maintainability
- Perform JVM tuning and performance optimisation
- Analyse application performance and identify bottlenecks
- Design and implement robust, production-quality solutions
- Work closely with engineering and technology teams to deliver application improvements
- Support troubleshooting and resolution of complex production issues

Key Requirements:

- Strong Java development experience
- Excellent Spring Boot experience
- Hands-on experience with JVM tuning and performance optimisation
- Proven experience with application restructuring / modernisation
- Strong understanding of application architecture and software engineering principles
- Experience working with large-scale, production applications
- Banking or financial services experience is highly desirable
