Java Developer

Location: Newcastle (Hybrid, 3 days onsite)
Contract: 12-Month FTC (with strong potential to become permanent)
Clearance: SC Eligible

Overview

We are looking for a Java Developer with strong experience in Java (JDK 11+), Spring Boot, and Microservices development to join a large-scale technology programme. You will be responsible for building secure, scalable, and maintainable enterprise applications while working within Agile delivery teams.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Strong commercial experience with Java (JDK 11+) and Spring Boot
  • Experience developing Microservices and REST APIs
  • Experience with WebLogic Server and CAS SDK
  • Cloud deployment experience, ideally AWS
  • Experience working with Docker/Containers
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Test Driven Development (TDD)
    • Continuous Integration (CI)
    • Continuous Testing
    • Coding Standards & Code Reviews
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain enterprise applications using Java and Spring Boot
  • Design and support Microservices architectures
  • Collaborate with Cloud, Infrastructure, DevOps, and Testing teams
  • Contribute to secure and scalable cloud deployments
  • Support automated testing and quality assurance activities
  • Participate in Sprint Planning, Stand-ups, Reviews, and Retrospectives
  • Follow engineering best practices and coding standards

Additional Responsibilities (CL9 / SFIA 5)

  • Review code and mentor junior developers
  • Drive engineering best practices and continuous improvement
  • Collaborate with Architects and DevOps teams on solution design
  • Support delivery across the full software development lifecycle

Security Clearance Eligibility

Candidates must:

  • Be a UK National or hold Settled Status
  • Have 5 years of continuous UK residency
  • Not have spent 30 consecutive days or more outside the UK within the last 5 years
