Server-side Engineer – Mobile Application Backend

Description

We're looking for a Server-side Engineer – Mobile Application Backend to join our team. In this role, you’ll design and develop the Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) API layer that powers mobile applications used by millions of users worldwide. You will work as part of the Mobile Engineering team—a multidisciplinary group of engineers, designers, and product experts—focused on building intuitive, high-performance backend services that deliver outstanding consumer experiences across digital touchpoints. The ideal candidate brings hands-on server-side engineering experience, strong problem-solving skills, and a passion for writing elegant and scalable code using modern technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain the mobile service layer (Backend-for-Frontend) supporting large-scale mobile applications
  • Deliver secure, reliable, and high-performing server-side APIs for real-time consumer experiences
  • Write clean, maintainable code and contribute to code reviews, refactoring, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Collaborate with mobile, product, and design teams to define solutions that enhance usability and functionality
  • Troubleshoot and optimize application performance for responsiveness and scalability
  • Create robust unit tests and integration tests to ensure software reliability
  • Manage asynchronous processing, error handling, and performance optimization in distributed systems
  • Support legacy system integrations and modernize existing codebases when required
  • Follow CI/CD best practices and contribute to team development pipelines and build systems
  • Actively share ideas, propose improvements, and participate in solution design discussions

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
