Senior Java Software Engineer - Equity Swaps Technology

Location: Glasgow (Hybrid - 2 days per week in the office)

Industry: Global Investment Bank

A leading global financial institution is seeking a Senior Java Software Engineer to join a distributed technology group delivering a high-profile lifecycle engine platform. Supporting the trading activity of major institutional clients and hedge funds, this team is responsible for driving high-performance, real-time trade processing systems for Equity Swaps and related derivative products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and build core lifecycle components, including a modern, real-time data streaming platform.
  • Partner with Architecture, Product, QA, and Business Analysis teams to deliver scalable solutions that optimise full front-to-back business workflows.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, refine requirements, and leverage modern AI tooling (such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar developer agents) into daily engineering tasks.
  • Work closely with Production Management (APS) to enable frequent, fully automated deployments while maintaining platform stability and resilience.
  • Ensure all solutions are robust, well-documented, highly observable, and backed by comprehensive automated testing.

Required Experience & Technical Skills

  • Core Engineering: 8+ years of commercial software development experience with strong expertise in multi-threaded Java (Java 17/21) and Spring Boot.
  • AI-Assisted Development: Experience leveraging agentic AI tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, or AI-assisted coding CLI workflows) to accelerate code generation, refactoring, and daily execution.
  • Message-Driven Architecture: Hands-on experience with Kafka, Apache Flink, or equivalent real-time event-streaming platforms.
  • Containers & Data: Proficiency with Docker, Kubernetes, and relational databases (MS SQL, Sybase).
  • Delivery Automation & Monitoring: Strong focus on automated testing, automated release pipelines, and observability tools (Grafana, Prometheus).
  • Mindset: Delivery-focused problem solver with a hands-on approach and strong stakeholder communication skills.
