Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site Java Software Engineer role based in London. The Java Software Engineer will design, develop, and maintain backend services and applications that support Global Relay’s recordkeeping and communications platform. Day-to-day responsibilities include:

The role involves:

  • Writing clean, testable code
  • Participating in code reviews
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams
  • Troubleshooting production issues to ensure performance, scalability, and security

The engineer will also contribute to:

  • Architectural discussions
  • Continuous integration and deployment practices
  • Documentation of technical solutions

Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency in Java and general Programming skills, with experience building robust backend systems.
  • Hands-on experience in Software Development using modern practices such as unit testing, code reviews, and continuous integration.
  • Practical knowledge of Microservices architectures, including designing, deploying, and maintaining distributed services.
  • Experience with Spring Framework (e.g., Spring Boot, Spring Data) for developing scalable and secure enterprise applications.
  • Familiarity with relational and/or NoSQL databases, RESTful APIs, and message-based integration.
  • Understanding of security, privacy, and compliance considerations in software systems, ideally within regulated industries.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in an on-site, cross-functional team environment, with clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with cloud platforms, containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes), and monitoring tools is an asset.
