Why This Role Matters
The Inventory Controller role provides both art handling and inventory management support for Christie’s Jewellery and Watch department. Responsibilities including but not limited to – liaising with workshops and laboratories, organising condition photography and notes, and preparing items for client viewing or shipment. The role holder will be responsible for maintaining accurate inventory and providing detailed reporting. When required, the role holder will engage with the wider team of Art Technicians, ensuring the department has the appropriate level of resourcing to support business as usual activities. The role is both varied and challenging and requires a high degree of enthusiasm and energy
How You'll Make An Impact
- Manage and control the flow of property, ensuring all items are tagged and condition checked with all product movement recorded accurately in Christie’s Inventory Management systems
- Report immediately to line manager any damages, losses or inventory discrepancies
- Manage the movement of property safely and securely between the department and photography studios, workshops, and laboratories
- Pack items for secure transport both within London and to other Christie’s Sale sites
- Prepare and maintain an up-to-date file of condition notes and images, worn photographs and videos, and laboratory certificates for each sale
- Provide logistical support for specialists during cataloguing and pre-sale lotting up
- Liaise with key stakeholders (photographers, specialist departments, third party suppliers and workshops) to ensure all items are ready for sale
- Liaise with saleroom operations to securely install and de-install property for exhibition
- Support the Jewellery Sale Coordinator with preparing printed materials for tours and exhibitions
- Perform monthly stock checks on all live inventory (auction & private sale)
- Collaborate with Inventory Management and Specialist Departments to ensure all warehouses have 100% item location accuracy and all unsuitable products are processed according to inventory management guidelines
- Comply at all times with Christie’s policies on data protection & client confidentiality, and inventory management policies
- Capture information in Christie’s systems and offline and report findings to key stakeholders i.e. security
- Other tasks as assigned by Manager / Head of Jewellery Dept

What You'll Bring To The Team
- Must have (or will be trained) to provide art handling expertise for Jewellery & Watches
- Strong understanding of logistics and inventory management processes
- Experience working to a deadline while remaining calm under pressure
- High degree of organisation with ability to multi-task, prioritise workflow and follow up promptly
- High attention to detail, hardworking, self-motivated, and an excellent team worker
- Excellent communication and ability to problem solve
- Ability to work professionally and responsibly with all internal and external stakeholders
- Strong knowledge of Excel, Outlook, and MS Teams required, and knowledge of Christie’s systems (Oracle JDE and Canvas) beneficial
- Must be willing to support colleagues across department functions and specialist areas
- Desire to learn and take on new challenges
- Understanding or experience of the auction process beneficial
