EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

We’re looking for a Job Build Technician to join our Workforce Planning & Optimisation Team for 9 months at our office at Pride Park in Derby.

What does a Job Build Technician do?

They are responsible for creating compliant permits and work packs to allow our operational teams to safely conduct crucial emergency and planned repair, renewal, and installation works.

As our operational workers are out and about 24/7 their work needs to be built and set up for success with all the correct information ready to go for the works to commence. To meet the target level of crew optimisation your role will be very goal orientated so if you like working towards targets or even better reaching/ exceeding targets this could be the role for you!

The second key part to the role of Job Build Technician is great stakeholder management, you’ll be liaising daily with various internal and external parties to successfully build the permits, including booking traffic management and other constraints, with the appropriate approval to ensure successful completion of the works, first time.

So, who are my stakeholders I hear you say? As well as working within a large team of vibrant and friendly Job Builders, you'll be liaising with external suppliers, highway authorities, field managers, operatives, the local planning authorities.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Your weekend shifts will be between 06:30 – 16:00

You’ll get to finish 30 minutes earlier every Friday when working an early or day shift and start 30 minutes later on a Friday when working a late shift!
