About the Employment & Skills Service
The Employment & Skills Service is part of Coventry City Council. We work with a range of delivery partners to provide a wide portfolio of top quality support to Coventry residents of all ages who are looking for work. We work with partners across the city and our Employer Hub actively works with local employers to generate opportunities for local people.
Our friendly and welcoming Job Shop is situated in Coventry City Centre. We are here to support all Coventry residents to search for employment, training, apprenticeships and work placements. People can explore a wide range of local vacancies that are updated daily and access training opportunities.
We also provide ground-breaking specialist support for local residents who face multiple and sometimes complex barriers that make it hard for them to find a job. The Job Shop and our exciting range of specialist employment support programmes are among the very best support available in the UK.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of Coventry’s growing post-16 pathways to employment programmes ‘Changing Futures Together’, designed for young people with Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND). The team forms part of the Job Shop and Coventry Learns and works in partnership with the Council’s SEND team. Changing Futures Together offer a range of study programmes designed to improve the lives of young people with SEND, striving to provide better choice and control, good quality support and the opportunity to progress in life through a range of employment pathways.
You will support learners on our study programmes which includes supported internships, Step into Work, and Step into Your Future, working with the learners to identify their skills, experience and aspirations. Supporting them to develop their employment skills, including independent travel and then working with other members of the team to identify appropriate employment pathways.

Your role will be to support the learners to access employment related opportunities and become independent in their roles and provide the necessary coaching, training and encouragement to enable them to succeed. You will provide the learners with on-the-job training and support in the workplace. You will liaise with the young person’s family, education provider and other people involved in their life to ensure that the support you provide is tailored to the young person’s needs.
You will work closely with employers to identify and create opportunities and ensure that they are supported and can confidently manage, train and support customers once your support has been faded and withdrawn. This will involve working with the learners workplace colleagues to help them to develop the skills and confidence they need, identifying the various tasks that make up the role and working with the employer to develop a support plan. You will carry out regular monitoring visits and reviews to ensure that placements are going well and that learners are progressing and reaching their potential.
The Pathways to Employment Team operates in line with the Supported Employment Model BASE supported employment model - explained. Training and support will be provided but you should understand the approach and how this differs from traditional models of work readiness.
This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
All candidates must have the Right to Work in the UK. We are currently not offering sponsorship for this role.

- You will be confident in and enjoy adapting to various work settings and be able to work effectively on your own initiative and as part of a team.
- You will be able to work flexibly, travelling to different locations. The majority of your week will be based in employer settings. This role is generally during office/college hours but may very occasionally involve early starts, late finishes or working at weekends depending on the support needs of your customers and employers. You will be involved in agreeing and setting up support so will have advance notice of when flexible working will be required.
