Project Engineer — Utility-Scale Solar (Talent Community)

Power the Future of Clean Energy Are you an experienced Project Engineer with a background in utility-scale solar construction? What You Will Do (When the Right Opportunity Arises)

Play a pivotal role in leading and overseeing the execution of utility-scale solar projects:

  • Lead & mentor Field Engineers, ensuring project tracking, reporting, and performance align with company standards.
  • Coordinate between teams—linking internal and third-party engineering firms, field operations, and contractors.
  • Manage key project documentation: RFIs, permits, contracts, and construction drawings to support seamless execution.
  • Support safety and quality initiatives throughout the design, procurement, and construction phases.
  • Oversee critical project controls, including:
    • Budgeting, forecasting, and financial oversight (cost analysis & reporting)
    • Project scheduling (proficient in MS Project, P6, or similar scheduling tools)
    • Resource allocation and milestone tracking
  • Generate reports for both internal stakeholders (management, executives) and external partners (clients, regulatory bodies).
  • Bridge communications between site teams, engineering, and project clients, ensuring alignment.
  • Advance operational efficiency by identifying and implementing process improvements using data and industry tools.
  • Act in interim leadership—when required, step in for the Site Manager to maintain project continuity.

Requirements

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

To qualify, you should have:

✅ A valid driver’s license with an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR). ✅ Strong numerical & accounting skills (arethmetic, budgeting, reporting). ✅ Presentation skills—comfortable addressing groups of 10+ people in professional settings. ✅ Twenty-first-century construction savvy: Hold expertise in 2+ engineering disciplines, including:

  • Civil, electrical (e.g., solar arrays, inverters), mechanical (foundation, structural), or commissioning. ✅ Technical competency: Proficient in common digital workflow tools, including:
  • Microsoft 365 (Excel: advanced data processing, PivotTables; Word, Outlook)
  • Adobe Acrobat/BlueBeam for PDF revisions and markup
  • Scheduling tools (Oracle Primavera P6, MS Project)
  • Engineering software (AutoCAD, Revit, CAD tools)
  • Diagram tools (Visio, PowerPoint integrations) ✅ Strong interpersonal skills: Demonstrated ability to:
  • Communicate clearly orally & writtenly (emails, reports, presentations)
  • Mentor younger engineers and lead cross-functional teams
  • Organize priorities in fast-moving environments ✅ Physical readiness for remote and on-site project work:
  • Relocate for average assignment durations of 6–15 months (project sites across Indiana and Illinois, often rural/climate-challenged).
  • Country-side or industrial site environments: exposure to uneven terrain, all weather.

Physical & Environmental Job Demands

  • Compliance with on-site safety standards (clothing: long sleeves, steel-toe boots; grooming standards: clean-shaven).

  • Pass a physical exam if required by client.

  • Habitual tasks require:

    • Balance & stability (ladder/scaffolding access, unfamiliar terrain).
    • Flexible movements: stooping, kneeling, climbing, crawling.
    • Frequent work in elevated spaces, excavations, confined areas (e.g., solar array foundations).
    • Material handling: lift & carry up to 50 lb. independently; assist with heavier loads.
    • Extended on-site time, both standing and walking on uneven surfaces (grave!

    l, asphalt).

  • Tools Exposure: Periodic requirement to wear PPE, including respirators, when necessary.

  • Environment: Physical workload often concentrated here, predominately outdoor work with exposure to:

    • Hot/cold extreme conditions,
    • Heat (weather-dependent),
    • High humidity, rain, storms,
    • Noise from tools, machinery (hearing protection),
    • Potential chemical exposure in EPC/fabrication contexts.

Compensation & Perks

💰 Base Salary Range: $90,000 – $123,000
