Journalism Intern (Unpaid)

Location: Remote / Flexible
Type: Internship — Unpaid
Duration: [Insert duration]
Hours: Flexible / Part-time
Reports to: Editorial Team

About Us

We are a growing media group operating a portfolio of journalism and news titles covering local communities, cities, regions, and international audiences. Our publications cover a broad range of topics, including local news, business, politics, public affairs, communities, culture, lifestyle, and other issues relevant to the audiences we serve.

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated Journalism Interns who want to gain practical experience in modern journalism and contribute to real editorial work across our portfolio of publications.

The Role

As a Journalism Intern, you will work alongside our editorial team to research, develop, and produce stories for one or more of our media titles.

The exact publication and subject areas you work on may vary depending on your interests, skills, location, and the editorial needs of our publications.

This is an opportunity to gain hands-on experience across different stages of the journalism process — from finding story ideas and researching information to interviewing sources, writing articles, and supporting digital publication.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research potential news stories, features, and emerging issues.
  • Identify interesting and relevant stories within local, city, regional, and international contexts.
  • Monitor news developments, public announcements, government sources, organizations, and other reliable sources.
  • Conduct background research and fact-check information.
  • Contact potential sources and, where appropriate, conduct interviews.
  • Write news articles, features, interviews, and other editorial content.
  • Assist journalists and editors with developing story ideas.
  • Attend or cover relevant local events, meetings, press conferences, and public activities where appropriate.
  • Monitor social media and other digital platforms for potential story leads.
  • Assist with verifying information, names, dates, statistics, and quotations.
  • Contribute headlines, summaries, and other digital content for publication.
  • Support the editorial team with research and other newsroom tasks.
  • Follow editorial standards, journalistic ethics, and applicable legal requirements.
  • Work across different publications within our media group when required.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
