Junior Accounts Assistant Apprenticeship
This new accounting role will be based in a lovely office filled with enthusiastic people who are mainly graduates. We have a real Team culture and help each other as much as we can. There are about ten people working in the main office and the accounts team who share this office will grow to four with our new hire.
What you'll do at work
Purchase Ledger:
- Posting simple invoices to the purchase ledger using Sage accounting software
- Reconciling simple supplier statements.
Pricing:
- Maintaining accurate price information on Sage accounting software
General Administration:
- Ad hoc administration duties as required.
Accounts Filing:
- Assisting the accounts department with general filing

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Record transactional data.
- Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues, such as reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
- Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
- Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
- Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience, and different media methods, with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
- Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
- Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

Training schedule
Formal training is delivered at HWGTA, located Holmer Road, Hereford HR4 9SX.
You will receive training one day per week which is a combination of face-to-face and remote, as per your assigned training plan.
Additional training for functional skills in English and maths will be undertaken if needed.
You will receive monthly visits from your assigned Learning and Development Specialist, who will set you work, monitor your development and wellbeing, and discuss training sessions. They will also prepare you for your End Point Assessment to gain your Accountancy AAT Level 2 qualification.
Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- English and Maths (grade 4 or C above)
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
