Junior Accounts Assistant – Compliance Team
Hertford | Full-time, Permanent | £22,000–£26,000 (Flexible dependent on experience)
About Us
Barley Grove are accountants based in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire, supporting businesses and individuals with their accounting, tax and compliance needs. We're now looking to grow our Hertford-based compliance team with the addition of a Junior Accounts Assistant.
The Role
We're looking for a motivated Junior Accounts Assistant to join our compliance team in Hertford. You'll get broad exposure across bookkeeping, payroll, tax and year-end work — ideal for someone with a couple of years' practice experience who wants to keep developing their skills with ongoing training and support.

Key Responsibilities
- Bookkeeping for a range of clients
- Payroll processing
- Client onboarding
- Preparing end of year accounts
- Preparing and submitting tax and VAT returns
- General finance-related administrative support
What We're Looking For
- At least 2 years' experience in an accountancy practice environment
- An accounting qualification (e.g. AAT), or actively studying towards one
- Strong Microsoft Office skills (Excel in particular) and generally tech-savvy
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Good communication skills and a team-player attitude
- Ability to manage own workload and prioritise effectively

What We Offer
- Salary of £22,000–£26,000 (dependent on experience)
