Main purpose of the Job:

The Actuarial Analyst will focus primarily on pricing, working closely with the Pricing Actuary to develop and maintain pricing models, support underwriters with case pricing, analyse portfolio performance and communicate findings to stakeholders.

The role will also provide exposure to reserving and capital modelling through project-based work and preparing information/data for stakeholders across the business.

Key tasks:

  • Support the development, testing, and ongoing maintenance of pricing models for Syndicate, MGA and delegated authority business.
  • Support the Pricing Actuary and underwriters with case pricing, including preparing and checking analyses, explaining key assumptions and impacts.
  • Develop effective working relationships with underwriters by listening to their requirements, communicating clearly and delivering reliable support.
  • Assisting other members of the team as required, including support during reserving exercises and Internal Model Validation exercises.
  • Liaise with and provide data and information as requested by internal stakeholders from Claims, Finance, Underwriting and Risk.
  • Work with Finance, Compliance and Underwriting teams in the development of the Actuarial Function.

Key personal skills required:

  • Highly numerate graduate (or equivalent) with up to 2 years of experience.
  • A structured and curious approach to problem-solving, with the ability to investigate issues, test assumptions and draw practical conclusions.
  • Ability to take ownership of agreed tasks, seek guidance when needed and raise any issues or uncertainties promptly.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly and adapt the level of detail for underwriters and various other internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to gather relevant information, apply sound judgement, explain conclusions and respond constructively to challenge.
  • Ability to organise work and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Willingness to learn, ask questions, and share knowledge with colleagues.
  • Ability to manipulate and analyse data to identify trends and anomalies, working to a high level of accuracy.

Key technical skills, knowledge and professional qualifications required:

  • Knowledge of the actuarial techniques for London market lines of business useful but not essential.
  • Confidence working with spreadsheets and an interest in developing data and coding skills. Experience with tools such as Excel, SQL, Python, R or similar is beneficial but not essential.
  • A desire to study for IFoA or similar exams.
