Junior Application Security Engineer Internship Program – Remote
The EncryptEdge Labs Junior Application Security Engineer Internship Program provides a tailored, eight-week hands-on learning experience focused on securing modern applications. Through structured challenges, interns will explore key areas including secure code analysis, vulnerability assessment, penetration testing, and secure development methodologies.
Interns will gain practical expertise in identifyng and mitigating vulnerabilities using industry-standard tools such as SAST (Static Application Security Testing), DAST (Dynamic Application Security Testing), and code review platforms. The program concludes with a capstone project where interns apply their knowledge to secure a mock application and deliver a detailed security report. This internship is ideal for aspiring application security specialists eager to build safer software.
Key Responsibilities
- Learn and implement secure software development practices (SSDPs).
- Conduct Static Application Security Testing (SAST) and Dynamic Application Security Testing (DAST).
- Perform vulnerability assessments and penetration testing on web and mobile applications.
- Identify and mitigate vulnerabilities from the OWASP Top 10 and CWE standards.
- Collaborate on securing APIs, databases, and cloud-based applications.
- Complete a final capstone project, securing a mock application and presenting findings.
- Write comprehensive security assessment reports, including remediation recommendations.

- Strong documentation and reporting skills, capable of clearly articulating findings and remediation steps.

Educational & Learning Background
- Preferred: Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Information Security (not mandatory).
- Demonstrated self-learning through certifications, projects, or participation in:
- Bug bounty programs
- CTFs (Capture The Flag)
- Online vulnerabilities labs
- Foundational knowledge of:
- Web technologies & architectures (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, APIs, databases).
- Network protocols (HTTP/HTTPS, DNS, TCP/IP) and OS (Windows/Linux).
- Awareness of the OWASP Top 10 and common web vulnerabilities.
Desirable Certifications
- TryHackMe: Web Fundamentals/Roles, Path Web Hacking
- eLearnSecurity: Junior Penetration Tester (eJPT) or Web Application Penetration Tester (eWPT)
- CompTIA: Security+ or Pentest+ (e.g., for entry-level candidates)

- Burp Suite, OWASP ZAP, Nikto
- Kali Linux, Nmap, Metasploit
- Reconnaissance & exploitation frameworks
- SAST tool examples: SonarQube, Semgrep (optional)
- Ability to automate tests:
- Basic scripting (Python, JavaScript, Bash)
