This entry-level position is an excellent springboard into Legal Finance, offering hands on experience and a thorough understanding of the end-to-end billing process, a cornerstone for running matters in a law firm and ensuring profitability and cashflow. As a Junior Billing Analyst, you will play a key role in supporting the financial operations of the firm.
The Billing Team sits at the heart of the firm’s financial operations. We work collaboratively, support one another, and take pride in delivering a first class service to partners and clients alike. We are continually improving how we work, and you’ll be part of shaping our next steps.
Key responsibilities

- Providing support in coordinating and responding to requests submitted to the central Billing inbox through the ticketing system.
- Identify potential billing risks early (e.g., missing time entries, rate inconsistencies, WIP anomalies) and flag them before they impact deadlines.
- Reviewing time entries and narratives to identify potential issues and recommend appropriate amendments.
- Act as a central point of coordination between Billing, the wider Finance department, EAs, fee earners, and other teams to keep billing workflows smooth and joined up.
- Ensure our data can be relied upon - Update and monitor client and matter billing rates, ensuring all records are current and adjustments are implemented accurately so that fee-earners and Finance colleagues alike always have the right information to hand.
- Contribute and support the management of e-billing submissions, help maintain compliance with specific client e-billing requirements, and troubleshoot any issues related to electronic invoicing.
- Stay ahead of the curve by tracking Work in Progress (WIP), regularly monitoring unbilled time and expenses to support effective matter management and revenue recognition.
- Turn data into insight by producing and delivering regular matter-level financial reports, raising awareness of billing status, WIP, and overall financial performance to legal teams and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with legal teams to gather, review, and validate billable time and expenses, addressing any queries or discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Prepare draft and final invoices using the firm’s billing systems, ensuring proper formatting, narrative, and supporting documentation.
- Liaise with clients and internal stakeholders regarding billing queries, adjustments, and clarifications.
- Support the Accounts Receivable process by monitoring outstanding invoices and assisting with follow-ups to ensure timely collections, contributing directly to the firm’s cashflow.
- Maintain accurate records of billing activities and contribute to monthly reporting and analysis on matter profitability and financial performance.
- Help shape and improve how we operate by Identifying areas for process improvement within the Billing function, supporting the implementation of best practices across the team.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
