Junior Business Development Executive

Many people want to move into business development but are repeatedly asked to show experience they have never been given the opportunity to build. This role creates that starting point. You will develop commercial confidence through real conversations, structured coaching, and measurable campaign responsibility, with enough support to learn and enough accountability to make the experience meaningful.

Sage is looking for someone who can communicate naturally, remain organised, and become more effective through feedback. A business degree is not required. Experience from customer service, retail, hospitality, sport, events, administration, or another people-focused environment can provide a useful foundation when it demonstrates reliability and sound judgement.

The Position

The position is full time, on site, and follows a Monday-to-Friday working week. It provides guaranteed base pay of £400 per week plus performance-based incentives. Total on-target earnings are expected to range from £600 to £800 per week, including the base. Any earnings above £400 depend on individual results and are not guaranteed.

Building Commercial Momentum

Your development begins with understanding an assigned brand campaign. You will learn the service, the audience it is designed for, the approved information, and the outcome the campaign is expected to produce. This knowledge gives you the confidence to begin purposeful face-to-face conversations rather than relying on a rehearsed script.

  • You will speak with prospective customers, establish what is relevant to them, and explain the service clearly.
  • Where a person chooses to proceed, you will complete the required process accurately.
  • Where the service is not suitable or the answer is no, you will close the conversation professionally and move forward without lowering your standard.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Business development also involves recognising patterns. You may notice a recurring customer question, a part of the explanation that creates uncertainty, or a follow-up action that improves the result. You will learn to record these observations, discuss them during reviews, and test practical changes.

Your Weekly Scorecard

You will be accountable for several connected measures rather than one isolated figure:

  • Preparation, including current campaign knowledge and readiness for each working day.
  • Activity, showing that you consistently create opportunities for relevant conversations.
  • Communication quality, including listening, accuracy, and professional presentation.
  • Conversion, reflecting the number of suitable customers who decide to proceed.
  • Administration, covering complete records, customer details, and agreed follow-up.
  • Learning, demonstrated by applying coaching and reviewing the effect of each change.

These measures help you understand why a result happened. Strong activity with low conversion may show that part of the conversation needs attention. Strong conversion with incomplete records is not a sustainable result. The purpose of the scorecard is to develop commercial judgement, not simply to produce a league table.

Increasing Your Business Contribution

Once you can manage your own campaign activity consistently, your view of the operation can widen. You may contribute to campaign preparation, share useful customer insight, assist with a briefing, or help a new colleague understand an approved process. You may also gain exposure to how performance information supports client updates and future campaign planning.

Progression is based on evidence. Additional responsibility depends on reliable results, professional conduct, and an available business need. There is no automatic promotion date, but there is a clear opportunity to build the skills and track record required for broader commercial responsibility.

Evidence We Value

Your application does not need to contain a previous business development title. We want evidence that you can influence an outcome, respond to a target, or improve after feedback. This could come from employment, education, volunteering, competitive sport, or a personal responsibility that required consistency.

You should be comfortable starting conversations with people you have not met, working with straightforward figures, and discussing where your approach could improve. Confidence is useful, but the strongest candidates combine it with listening, self-awareness, and follow-through.

Use the LinkedIn application to send your current CV. Add one concise example of a time when your communication changed an outcome. Explain what you needed to achieve, how you approached it, and what the result taught you.
