Job Summary
The Junior Compliance Specialist is responsible for supporting the Company's Compliance function by ensuring adherence to applicable regulatory requirements, internal policies and procedures, and industry best practices. The role involves conducting customer due diligence, monitoring transactions, reviewing compliance alerts, assisting with regulatory reporting, and supporting the implementation of the Company's AML and Compliance framework.
This position is suited to a strong junior professional who can work independently on day-to-day compliance activities while escalating complex or high-risk matters to the MLRO or Head of Compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct Customer Due Diligence (CDD), Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD), sanctions, PEP, and adverse media screening in accordance with the Company's AML policies.
- Review customer documentation and verify customer information for new and existing customer relationships.
- Review and investigate alerts generated by the Company's AML and compliance monitoring systems, escalating unusual or suspicious activity where appropriate.
- Monitor high-value transactions, foreign exchange transactions, and other activities to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and internal policies.
- Support ongoing customer monitoring and periodic customer file reviews.
- Prepare draft Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) and supporting documentation for review by the MLRO.
- Maintain accurate compliance records, registers, and documentation.
- Assist in preparing regulatory reports, management information, and compliance returns for internal and external reporting.
- Support compliance monitoring reviews, branch audits, and internal control testing.
- Respond to day-to-day compliance queries from branch and Head Office employees, escalating complex matters when required.
- Assist in investigating potential compliance breaches and gathering supporting documentation.
- Conduct due diligence on business partners, suppliers, and other third parties where required.
- Assist in drafting, reviewing, and updating compliance policies, procedures, guidance notes, and internal documentation.
- Monitor regulatory developments and support the implementation of new regulatory requirements across the business.
- Assist with the preparation and delivery of AML and Compliance training materials and employee awareness initiatives.
- Support the MLRO and Head of Compliance with compliance projects and other regulatory initiatives.
- Carry out any other duties reasonably requested by the MLRO or Head of Compliance.

Education & Experience
- Previous experience in Compliance, AML, KYC, Financial Crime, Banking, Financial Services, or a similar regulated environment (approximately 1–3 years preferred).
- Experience conducting CDD, EDD, sanctions screening, and ongoing monitoring is desirable.
- Experience working within an FCA-regulated environment is advantageous.
Knowledge & Skills
- Good understanding of UK AML, Counter Terrorist Financing (CTF), KYC, and financial crime requirements.
- Familiarity with FCA regulatory requirements and a risk-based approach to compliance.
- Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to investigate issues, identify potential risks, and escalate appropriately.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
Qualifications
- ICA Certificate in AML, Compliance, or Financial Crime, CAMS, or a similar professional qualification is desirable.
