We have an exciting opportunity for a Junior Data Engineer to join our Data Analytics team on a full-time permanent basis.

The successful candidate will help us strengthen the data foundations that power decision-making across First Bus.

You’ll work as part of our central Data & Analytics team, supporting the build and maintenance of data pipelines and models that underpin reporting, analytics, and data science use cases.

This role is ideal for someone with around a year of experience in data engineering or data-related work who’s keen to learn, collaborate, and grow their technical skills in a supportive environment.

What you’ll be doing

  • Assist in building and maintaining data pipelines using Azure Data Factory and SQL
  • Support the creation of clean, well-structured datasets that power business reporting and analysis
  • Help modernise and maintain our data warehouse and associated data models
  • Work with analysts and engineers to understand requirements and translate them into structured data solutions
  • Monitor data loads and help troubleshoot basic pipeline or data quality issues
  • Contribute to documentation, naming conventions, and consistency across datasets
  • Collaborate closely with the wider D&A team to learn shared standards and delivery practices

What we’re looking for

  • A degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
  • Previous experience in a data engineering or data-related role (internship, graduate scheme, or first role)
  • Good SQL skills and an understanding of how data is structured and queried
  • Some familiarity with Python or R
  • Interest or experience with Azure Data Factory or similar data pipeline tools
  • Enthusiasm for cloud technologies (Azure preferred)
  • A collaborative working style and a willingness to learn from others
  • A mindset focused on data quality, consistency, and improving how data is used

  • £30-£35,000
