Job Title

We are looking for an enthusiastic Junior Data Engineer to join our team and develop their skills in data engineering. Working alongside experienced colleagues, you will help support data pipelines, data integration and reporting solutions that enable trusted business intelligence and analytics across NRS.

What You Will Be Doing

As a Junior Data Engineer, you'll play an important role in helping NRS unlock the value of its data. Working alongside experienced Data Engineers and Analysts, you'll support the development of data pipelines, integration processes and reporting solutions that provide trusted business intelligence across the organisation.

You'll gain hands-on experience working with a variety of data sources, technologies and stakeholders, helping to ensure data is accessible, accurate and capable of driving informed decision-making. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your technical skills while contributing to innovative data solutions that support critical business objectives.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the development, maintenance and optimisation of data pipelines, integrations and reporting datasets that enable reliable business insights.
  • Working closely with Data Engineers, Analysts and business stakeholders to understand requirements, resolve issues and deliver high-quality data solutions.
  • Monitoring data quality, assisting with testing and validation activities, and helping to troubleshoot data and reporting challenges.
  • Contributing to technical documentation, continuous improvement initiatives and the adoption of data engineering best practices, governance standards and emerging technologies.

You'll be a strong communicator with excellent problem-solving abilities, able to work collaboratively with colleagues while demonstrating initiative and a commitment to continuous learning. Whether your experience comes from higher education, an apprenticeship, a graduate programme or practical hands-on experience, you'll be motivated to build your knowledge and make a meaningful contribution from day one.

Essential requirements:

  • A degree in a relevant subject, completion of an apprenticeship, graduate programme, or equivalent practical experience.
  • A basic understanding of data, databases and reporting concepts, together with SQL knowledge or a willingness to develop these skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to approach challenges in a logical and methodical way.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, alongside a proactive attitude towards learning new technologies and approaches.

Desirable

  • You'll stand out if you have gained exposure to Azure, Microsoft Fabric, Power BI or other cloud-based data platforms through study, placements or personal projects.
  • An understanding of ETL processes, data warehousing or data modelling concepts would also be advantageous, as would any practical experience working with data through academic assignments, internships or independent learning initiatives.
