Role title: Junior Data Scientist
TPR grade & pay group: Grade 9 & Digital

Starting salary: £41,511.00 Per Annum
Contract type: Fixed Term Contract: Until March 31st, 2027
Location: Brighton: Hybrid (6 days per month in the office)
The Role And Responsibilities
This role is to assist the Lead Data Scientist in combining advanced analytical capability with software skills and maths / stats knowledge, through supporting Data Scientists in their work, as part of developing towards becoming a (Senior) Data Scientist themselves. The development path for the Junior Analyst role is unique in that it develops a blend of both pensions/finance/economics subject matter expertise, coupled with strong analytical and data analysis skills, including the use of statistical/programmatical and open-source software development packages.
The role criteria
- Bachelor’s degree in a Data Science, STEM or similar quantitative subject, or equivalent professional experience.
- Working knowledge of statistical and analytical software, including one of R or Python and working knowledge of Microsoft Power BI (or similar data visualisation tools).
- Working knowledge of Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing techniques.
- Working experience of evaluating data sources for suitability, reliability & accuracy.
- Working knowledge of how to deliver Data Science efficiently and at scale within a cloud environment, e.g. Azure.
- Ability to communicate technical findings and approach in a non-technical but rigorous way.
- Ability to contribute towards work involving multiple stakeholders & specialisms.
- Working knowledge of emerging standards for Data Science within Government and evolving best practice.
- Experience working in a Data Science function, ideally supporting risk or policy functions.
- Working knowledge of wider data issues around quality, collection, and infrastructure.
