The Role
We are looking for an experienced Junior Design Engineer to join a precision engineering and manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures to support manufacturing processes, ensuring designs meet customer requirements and high-quality standards.
You will work closely with engineering and production teams to develop practical, accurate designs and identify opportunities to improve manufacturing efficiency and product quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Design tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures using CAD software.
- Produce detailed and accurate design drawings and documentation.
- Interpret technical drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
- Work closely with engineers and machinists to ensure designs are practical and suitable for manufacture.
- Develop and test prototypes where required to validate design concepts.
- Identify and implement design improvements to enhance manufacturing efficiency and product quality.
- Troubleshoot design issues and provide effective solutions.
- Consider machining processes, materials, and manufacturing requirements when developing designs.
- Liaise with production and engineering teams throughout the design and manufacturing process.
- Maintain high standards of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across design and manufacturing processes.

Skills & Experience
- Minimum 2 years' experience in tool design or a similar engineering design role.
- Proficiency using CAD software.
- Tooling design would be highly beneficial.
- Strong understanding of machining processes and engineering materials.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and engineering specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to identify and resolve design and manufacturing issues.
- Good communication skills with the ability to work effectively with engineering and production teams.
- Practical understanding of manufacturing processes and design for manufacture.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a wider team.
