Junior Developer | Full-time | Permanent | Office-based

Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 per annum (Dependent on skillset/experience) + benefits package (private medical insurance, dental and optical cash back, gym & wellness discounts)

Location: Central London (20 King St, London EC2V 8EG)

About Millbank FX

Millbank FX is a London-based foreign exchange and global payments specialist, trusted by mid-market and enterprise businesses to manage currency risk and international payments with speed, precision, and integrity.

Having processed over £6 billion in transaction volume, we partner with businesses across multiple sectors to deliver tailored FX solutions, international payment capabilities, and strategic risk management support.

Our business is built on disciplined execution, operational excellence, and long-term commercial relationships. We operate in a high-performance environment where ownership, accountability, and commercial ambition are highly valued.

We are now building out an in-house development function, and this is the first hire into it.

Role Overview

Almost everything we run internally has been built in-house: reconciliation tooling, bank API integrations, document verification, operational reporting, and our client-facing platform. Software is not a support function here. It is how the business moves faster than firms ten times its size.

We are looking for a Junior Developer to work directly alongside our Lead Developer on that toolset.

This is not a role where you will be handed a ticket and a specification. You will be handed a problem, usually described by someone in operations or trading who does not know what the solution looks like, and you will be expected to work out what actually needs building.

We build with AI tooling as standard. We are not looking for someone who can write a linked list on a whiteboard. We are looking for someone who can take an ambiguous business problem, break it down, build something that works, and know the difference between code that runs and code that is correct.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Your Mission

  • Build and maintain internal tools that automate manual operational processes
  • Work directly with operations, trading, and compliance to scope problems before building anything
  • Integrate with third-party systems: bank APIs, Salesforce, internal databases
  • Investigate and fix defects in existing systems, including code you did not write
  • Test your own work properly, including the failure cases, before it goes anywhere near live data
  • Document what you build so someone else can pick it up
  • Flag risk early and loudly, particularly anything touching client money

What You'll Need

Experience & Background

  • 0-3 years previous experience in developing
  • Demonstrable ability to build and ship working software, however you acquired it. Degree, bootcamp, self-taught, or a folder of things you built for yourself, we genuinely do not mind
  • A working understanding of at least one language (we mostly use Python and JavaScript) and the confidence to pick up others as required
  • Comfort with the fundamentals: APIs, databases, version control, how data moves between systems
  • Fluent, critical use of AI coding tools. You should be able to tell us where they have been wrong and how you caught it
  • Evidence that you have built something nobody asked you to build
  • Clear written communication, including the ability to explain a technical decision to someone non-technical

Nice to Have

  • Salesforce experience (Apex, SOQL, Flows)
  • Exposure to financial services, payments, or another regulated environment
  • Experience integrating with third-party or banking APIs
  • SQL beyond the basics
  • Any exposure to Excel automation or replacing spreadsheet-based processes
  • A GitHub, a portfolio, a side project, or anything else we can look at

None of the above are dealbreakers. All of them are things we would be pleased to see.

Mindset & Culture Fit

  • High agency. You see a problem, you go and understand it, and you come back with something
  • Comfortable being wrong quickly rather than right slowly
  • You stop and ask whether a problem is even solvable before spending three days on it
  • Careful where it matters. You understand that in this business a silent failure is worse than a loud one
  • Highly coachable with a strong desire to improve
  • Comfortable operating in a high-standards, feedback-driven environment

You are not expected to be fully formed. You are expected to be commercially serious, coachable, and accountable.

You're the right fit for us if

  • You're curious and ask why
  • You would rather challenge a bad requirement than build to it
  • You want to find the right solution, not the first one
  • You want to improve and seek feedback
  • You like to be challenged
  • You aspire to make an impact and be part of a team

What Success Looks Like

Within your first 6-12 months, you will:

  • Independently own and deliver small to mid-sized internal tools end to end
  • Be trusted to scope a request directly with the stakeholders without supervision
  • Have measurably removed manual work from at least one operational process
  • Ship changes that reach production without introducing defects into live processes
  • Be a second pair of eyes on the Lead Developer's work, not just a recipient of it

Remuneration & Progression

  • Competitive base salary
  • Structured coaching and development plan from the Lead Developer
  • Genuine ownership of projects from an early stage
  • Clear progression as the development function grows around you
