About The Role

RGB Recruitment seeks a Junior Electrical Engineer for its Bristol office, a full-time, permanent position paying £28,000 to £32,000 per annum. The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Junior Electrical Engineer to join an established and growing building services consultancy based in the Bristol area.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone at the beginning of their engineering career who is looking to develop within building services design and consultancy.

The position would suit a range of backgrounds. You could be a recent college leaver, a graduate looking to start your career in building services, an electrical technician looking to move into design, or an electrician/site-based professional who wants to transfer their practical experience into a consultancy environment.

You don't need to have years of consultancy experience. What's most important is a genuine interest in electrical engineering, a willingness to learn and the ambition to develop your technical skills.

You will work alongside experienced Mechanical, Electrical and Building Services professionals, gaining exposure to the design and delivery of electrical systems across a varied portfolio of projects.

The team delivers practical, energy-efficient and sustainable engineering solutions across a wide range of sectors, including commercial, education, healthcare, residential, industrial, defence, rail and public buildings.

The consultancy places significant emphasis on technical development, collaboration, sustainability and modern digital design, including BIM and Revit-based delivery.

The Role

As a Junior Electrical Engineer, you will support the wider electrical engineering team in developing building services designs from initial concepts through to detailed design and project delivery.

You will receive support and mentoring from experienced engineers while progressively taking on greater responsibility as your knowledge and confidence develop.

Your Responsibilities May Include

  • Supporting the design of electrical building services systems
  • Assisting with electrical calculations and technical assessments
  • Supporting the design of LV distribution and containment systems
  • Assisting with lighting and emergency lighting design
  • Supporting small power and electrical services design
  • Assisting with fire alarm, data, security and other specialist electrical systems
  • Supporting the preparation of technical drawings and documentation
  • Developing and maintaining electrical models and drawings using Revit and/or AutoCAD
  • Working with engineers and technicians from other disciplines to coordinate building services
  • Attending project and design meetings where appropriate
  • Carrying out site visits and surveys to develop practical understanding of building services
  • Learning and applying relevant British Standards, Building Regulations and industry guidance
  • Supporting senior engineers with project delivery and technical documentation
  • Developing your understanding of sustainable and energy-efficient electrical design

  • A college leaver with an electrical/electronic engineering qualification
  • A recent graduate with a degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related subject
  • An electrical engineering technician looking to progress into design
  • An electrician or electrical supervisor looking to move from site into consultancy
  • Someone with experience in electrical installation who wants to develop their design and engineering knowledge
  • An apprentice or junior engineer looking for the next stage of their career

Ideally, you will have:

  • A genuine interest in electrical engineering and building services
  • A relevant electrical or engineering qualification, or demonstrable practical experience
  • Good mathematical and technical aptitude
  • An eagerness to learn and develop
  • Good attention to detail
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Good communication skills
  • A practical and methodical approach to problem solving

Previous building services consultancy experience is desirable but not essential.

For candidates coming from an electrical site background, your practical understanding of installations, electrical systems, drawings and how buildings are constructed could provide an excellent foundation for moving into consultancy.
