Job Overview

As a Junior Front End Engineer working as part of our Front End Practice team, you will contribute to developing the front end elements of the features your agile team is delivering.

You will work closely with experienced engineers and cross-functional teams to understand customer needs, develop your technical skills, and deliver high-quality solutions. This is an exciting opportunity for someone at the early stages of their software engineering career who has a good foundation in JavaScript and an interest in modern front end development.

You will have the opportunity to learn from experienced engineers, contribute to real-world products, and develop your skills across technologies such as JavaScript and React.

Core Responsibilities

  • Development - Develop clean, efficient, and maintainable front end code using JavaScript, with support and guidance from more experienced engineers.
  • Collaboration - Work as part of an agile team, collaborating with engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver new features.
  • Quality - Contribute to automated testing and good development practices to ensure the quality and reliability of our applications.
  • Learning and Development - Continuously develop your technical knowledge and understanding of front end engineering, taking advantage of support and mentorship from the wider engineering team.
  • Problem Solving - Investigate and resolve bugs and technical issues, developing your ability to troubleshoot and diagnose problems effectively.
  • Code Reviews - Participate in code reviews and team discussions, learning from feedback and contributing to the quality of the team's codebase.

Must-haves

  • Some experience with JavaScript, whether through commercial experience, internships, placements, personal projects, or academic study.
  • A good understanding of fundamental JavaScript and web development concepts.
  • Familiarity with HTML and CSS.
  • An interest in modern front end development and a willingness to learn new technologies.
  • Some exposure to a front end framework such as React would be beneficial.
  • Good problem-solving skills and a logical approach to tackling technical challenges.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Self-motivated, curious, and keen to develop your skills as a software engineer.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with React or another modern JavaScript framework.
  • Familiarity with TypeScript.
  • Experience with automated testing.
  • Familiarity with Git and modern software development practices.
  • Exposure to cloud technologies such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
