Junior People & Culture Business Partner

About The Role

We're looking for a Junior People Business Partner to join our People Team. You'll be a visible, approachable point of contact for employees and managers, providing advice, coaching and case management on employee relations matters, while helping shape a positive, inclusive employee experience. You'll own ER cases end-to-end, spot trends, and help managers build confidence and consistency, escalating anything complex to the Group People & Culture Manager.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Own low-to-medium complexity ER cases (absence, conduct, capability, probation, flexible working) from triage to resolution.
  • Coach and advise managers on process, policy and risk, including attendance and performance issues.
  • Support and lead investigations, disciplinary and grievance hearings, documentation, notetaking and outcome letters.
  • Manage ER case administration: meetings, OH referrals, correspondence and case records.
  • Spot case trends and recommend proactive action.
  • Be the first point of contact for people queries and ER tickets, keeping FAQs and responses up to date.
  • Apply group people policies consistently, flagging gaps for improvement.
  • Support employee engagement, wellbeing and recognition activities.
  • Manage the apprenticeship portal and related compliance admin.
  • Look for ways to simplify and improve People Team processes.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance to the People & Culture Apprentice on ER queries.

About You

  • Experience handling ER casework (absence, conduct, capability, grievance or disciplinary) in an HR admin, coordinator or advisory role.
  • Good working knowledge of UK employment law and the ACAS Code.
  • Confident coaching managers through difficult conversations, with judgement on when to escalate.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; a natural relationship-builder.
  • Highly organised, with excellent attention to detail and discretion with confidential information.
  • Comfortable using an HRIS and ticketing system (Cezanne or Jira experience a plus).
  • A proactive, improvement-minded approach to people processes.
  • CIPD Level 3 (or working towards), or equivalent hands-on ER experience.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
