Role Purpose

The Junior IT Support role provides first-line and deskside technical support to colleagues across the business, ensuring users receive prompt, professional and customer-focused assistance for day-to-day technology issues. The role is suited to a hands-on individual who can support office users, maintain accurate ticket records, assist with device provisioning, and escalate more complex issues appropriately.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a visible, approachable IT support presence for the Liverpool office, responding to user issues face-to-face, by email, phone, Teams and ticketing system.
  • Log, triage, prioritise and resolve incidents and service requests in line with agreed service levels and internal processes.
  • Provide first-line support for Windows laptops/desktops, Microsoft 365, Teams, Outlook, printers, meeting room equipment, peripherals and mobile devices.
  • Assist with onboarding and leaver processes, including preparing equipment, setting up user profiles, checking access requirements and collecting returned assets.
  • Support basic Microsoft 365 and identity administration tasks such as password resets, MFA support, mailbox queries, distribution lists and group membership changes, subject to internal controls.
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity, Wi-Fi and printing issues, escalating recurring or complex problems to senior IT colleagues or third-party providers.
  • Maintain IT asset records, device allocation records, stock levels and support documentation.
  • Perform routine checks on desks, meeting rooms, printers and shared office IT equipment to ensure the office remains operational and presentable.
  • Contribute to knowledge base articles and user guidance for common issues.
  • Follow information security, data protection, access control and change management procedures at all times, particularly in a regulated insurance environment.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Some practical IT support experience, IT apprenticeship, relevant qualification, or strong demonstrable interest in IT support.
  • Basic working knowledge of Windows 10/11, Microsoft 365, Outlook, Teams and common productivity applications.
  • Good troubleshooting approach, with the ability to ask clear questions and follow issues through to completion.
  • Strong customer service mindset and the confidence to support users face-to-face in a busy office environment.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues in plain English.
  • Organised, reliable, punctual and able to prioritise multiple requests during busy periods.
  • Willingness to learn, follow process, document work clearly and escalate when appropriate.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with Active Directory or Microsoft Entra ID user administration.
  • Exposure to Intune, Autopilot, endpoint management or device compliance processes.
  • Familiarity with ITIL principles, ticketing systems, asset management and SLA reporting.
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts such as DNS, DHCP, VPN and Wi-Fi troubleshooting.
  • Experience in insurance, legal, financial services or another regulated office environment.
  • CompTIA A+, Microsoft Fundamentals, ITIL Foundation, or similar entry-level certification.

  • Checking printers, meeting rooms, desk setups, display screens, cables and shared equipment.

  • Updating tickets, maintaining asset records, documenting fixes and escalating unresolved issues.

Security and compliance

  • Following access control procedures, supporting MFA issues, reporting suspicious activity and maintaining confidentiality.
