Junior IT Systems Assistant
Location: Romford, Essex
Working arrangement: Fully office-based
Employment type: Full-time
Working hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Salary: £26,000 per year
About the Role
Yang Ming (UK) Ltd is looking for a Junior IT Systems Assistant to join our IT / Electronic Data Processing (EDP) team at our Romford office.
This is an entry-level opportunity for someone beginning their IT career. Previous professional IT experience is desirable but not essential, and graduates are welcome. A postgraduate qualification is not required.
Working alongside senior colleagues, you will help support the company’s IT systems, business applications, servers, network infrastructure and user equipment. You will also assist with support for the head-office ERP system and routine database-related activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day technical support to users for computers, business applications, printers, and related IT equipment.
- Install, configure, and maintain computers and approved business applications.
- Assist with the daily operation and maintenance of IT systems, servers, and network infrastructure.
- Assist with the administration and maintenance of Windows, Linux, and Unix server environments.
- Help troubleshoot software, system performance, and network connectivity issues.
- Support the head-office ERP system and liaise with the relevant support teams when required.
- Assist with routine database administration and troubleshooting under the guidance of senior colleagues.
- Maintain accurate IT documentation, system records, and equipment information.
- Escalate complex technical issues to senior colleagues, head office, or external support providers.
- Undertake occasional evening or weekend work when operationally required.

Essential Qualifications and Skills
- A degree or equivalent qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related subject.
- A good understanding of Windows operating systems, common desktop applications, and basic computer networking.
- Good troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Clear written and spoken English, with the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical users.
- A helpful, professional approach to user support.
- The ability to organise tasks, follow technical procedures, and work effectively with colleagues.
- A willingness to learn and develop practical IT skills.

Desirable Skills
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 applications and administration.
- Basic knowledge of Windows Server, Linux, or Unix administration.
- An understanding of network administration.
- Familiarity with business applications or ERP systems.
- Familiarity with Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, or PL/SQL.
- Relevant IT experience gained through employment, placements, coursework, practical labs, or personal projects.
