Junior Mechanical Project Engineer

Location: London
Reports to: Project Manager / Senior Mechanical Project Engineer

Role Overview

Support the delivery of mechanical systems on data centre construction projects. Working alongside senior engineers and project managers, the role will assist with project coordination, quality inspections, technical documentation, procurement tracking and commissioning activities to ensure mechanical works are delivered safely, on schedule and in accordance with project specifications.

This position is suited to a graduate or early-career engineer looking to develop technical and project management skills within the mission-critical construction sector.

Key Responsibilities

Project Support

  • Assist with the day-to-day management of mechanical works.
  • Monitor installation progress and report on site activities.
  • Attend coordination meetings with subcontractors and project teams.
  • Support project milestone and programme tracking.
  • Assist with resolving technical and construction-related issues.

Technical Coordination

  • Review mechanical drawings and specifications.
  • Assist with RFIs and technical queries.
  • Support the review of subcontractor technical submissions and shop drawings.
  • Coordinate information between designers, subcontractors and site teams.
  • Ensure the latest drawing and document revisions are available on site.

Quality Assurance

  • Conduct site inspections under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Assist with quality checks and verification of installations.
  • Support the management of Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
  • Identify and track defects, snags and corrective actions.
  • Maintain quality and inspection records.

Procurement & Materials

  • Assist with procurement tracking for mechanical equipment and materials.
  • Monitor delivery schedules and site logistics.
  • Verify delivered materials against approved specifications.
  • Maintain procurement trackers and equipment schedules.

Commissioning Support

  • Assist with pre-commissioning and commissioning activities.
  • Support preparation of commissioning documentation.
  • Coordinate subcontractors during testing activities.
  • Track commissioning issues and close-out actions.
  • Assist with turnover and handover documentation.

  • Promote safe working practices on site.
  • Participate in site safety walks and toolbox talks.
  • Support compliance with project health and safety requirements.
  • Report hazards and unsafe conditions promptly.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain project records and document control systems.
  • Prepare progress reports and meeting minutes.
  • Update action trackers and technical logs.
  • Support the compilation of as-built documentation and project close-out packages.
