Junior Mechanical Project Engineer
Location: London
Reports To: Project Manager / Senior Mechanical Project Engineer
Support the delivery of mechanical systems on data centre construction projects. Working alongside senior engineers and project managers, the role assists with coordination, quality inspections, technical documentation, procurement tracking, and commissioning activities to ensure mechanical works are completed safely, on schedule, and in accordance with project specifications.
This position is ideal for a graduate or early-career engineer seeking to develop technical and project management skills within the mission-critical construction sector.
Key Responsibilities
Project Support
- Assist the project team with the day-to-day management of mechanical works.
- Monitor installation progress and report on site activities.
- Attend coordination meetings with subcontractors and internal project teams.
- Support tracking of project milestones and programme deliverables.
- Assist with resolving technical and construction-related issues.

- Review mechanical drawings and specifications.
- Assist in managing Requests for Information (RFIs) and technical queries.
- Support the review of subcontractor technical submissions and shop drawings.
- Coordinate information between designers, subcontractors, and site teams.
- Ensure the latest revisions of drawings and documents are available on site.
Quality Assurance
- Conduct site inspections under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Assist with quality checks and verification of installations.
- Support management of Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
- Help identify and track defects, snags, and corrective actions.
- Maintain quality records and inspection documentation.
Procurement & Materials
- Assist in tracking procurement of mechanical equipment and materials.
- Monitor delivery schedules and site logistics.
- Verify materials delivered to site match approved specifications.
- Maintain procurement trackers and equipment schedules.
Commissioning Support
- Assist with pre-commissioning and commissioning activities.
- Support preparation of commissioning documentation.
- Coordinate subcontractors during testing activities.
- Track commissioning issues and close-out actions.
- Assist with turnover and handover documentation.

Health & Safety
- Promote safe working practices on site.
- Participate in site safety walks and toolbox talks.
- Ensure mechanical subcontractors comply with project safety requirements.
- Report hazards and unsafe conditions promptly.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain project records and document control systems.
- Prepare progress reports and meeting minutes.
- Update action trackers and technical logs.
- Support compilation of as-built documentation and project closeout packages.
