Junior Metrology Engineer
AddQual Ltd is looking for a Junior Metrology Engineer to join our team in Derby. This is an exciting opportunity for an early-career engineer with one to three years’ relevant experience to develop their skills while applying advanced measurement techniques within aerospace manufacturing and other highly regulated industries.
As a Junior Metrology Engineer, you will conduct and support the management of precision measurement and data-analysis activities for complex components and assemblies. You will help ensure compliance with engineering specifications using AddQual’s industry-leading metrology systems, software, and processes. You will also contribute to the development of measurement methodologies, improve inspection accuracy, and support greater efficiency across customer projects.
At AddQual, we bring decades of experience in aerospace and medical component manufacturing. We use cutting-edge non-contact scanning, 3D printing, and digital design tools to help customers reduce costs, minimize waste, and shorten lead times through metrology and data-driven decision-making.
Role Responsibilities
- Perform and support precision measurement and data analysis of components, assemblies, tooling, and fixtures.
- Develop, validate, and optimize measurement processes to improve accuracy, repeatability, and efficiency.
- Support non-contact data capture using optical scanning systems such as GOM or Alicona by creating and modifying 3D scanning programs.
- Ensure 'Best Practice' is adopted in the design of measurement systems and inspection strategies for specific project requirements.
- Lead capability studies and measurement system analysis (MSA) to ensure accuracy and repeatability.
- Select appropriate measurement equipment, fixtures, and data-capture methods.
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing requirements.
- Produce clear inspection reports, technical summaries, and visual data presentations.
- Support first-article inspection, production validation, and component approval activities.
- Work collaboratively with engineering, quality, manufacturing, and project teams.
- Contribute to product-development activities, including design, prototyping, and productionisation.
- Conduct root-cause investigations and support the development of corrective and preventive actions.
- Identify dimensional trends, process variation, and opportunities for improvement.
- Liaise with customers and suppliers to maintain quality and technical integrity.
- Provide technical guidance and support to metrology technicians when appropriate.
- Contribute to continuous improvement across AddQual’s metrology systems and processes, to reduce lead-time, reduce cost, and minimize the chance of non-conformance.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
