Junior Patent Attorney – In-House | London (Hybrid)
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a junior patent attorney to join a FTSE-listed global communications and technology business, that has been at the forefront of mobile and digital transformation for decades.
This is an in-house role within an established patent team that manages a portfolio of thousands of patents. The core patent work is well embedded within the business, but what's new, and where the team is investing, is commercialisation: licensing, selling patents, and building the strategy behind how the portfolio generates value. That means this role is as much about people as it is about patents.
What you'll be doing:
- Managing elements of the patent portfolio, including filing decisions, deadlines, and mapping cases to commercial goals
- Drafting and prosecuting patent applications, and working with outside counsel where relevant
- Supporting proactive invention capture, including assessing invention disclosures directly with inventors
- Helping design and deliver IP training and awareness sessions across technical, business, and legal stakeholders
- Contributing to data collection and reporting on patent matters

What they're looking for:
- A minimum of 2 years' post-qualification experience as a European and/or UK patent attorney (finalists also considered), ideally with some in-house exposure
- A genuinely sociable, personable approach — you'll be talking to inventors and stakeholders regularly, so the ability to build relationships matters as much as technical strength
- Curiosity about AI and its use in patent drafting and prosecution, and ideas for how it can make the role more efficient
- A degree in Engineering Science, Electrical Engineering, or Software Engineering
- Experience with networks, AI, or software patent areas is a strong plus; open source experience is desirable
