The Vacancy

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious Junior Press Officer to join our growing in-house PR team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a genuine passion for communications, media, politics and public affairs who is looking to build their career in a supportive and collaborative environment.

Working as part of our Commercial Group, you'll join an integrated marketing team of experts across PR, marketing, digital and design, helping to deliver impactful campaigns that support the firm's strategic objectives.

You'll have the opportunity to work across all areas of the business, executing PR, public affairs and social media activity, whilst developing your skills and gaining exposure to senior stakeholders and spokespeople.

Based in our London office, you'll benefit from our flexible hybrid working approach, with opportunities to travel to our other offices across the UK.

What will your role look like?

As a Junior Press Officer, you'll support the delivery of integrated PR, public affairs and social media campaigns, helping to raise the profile of Hymans Robertson and its experts across key markets.

You'll play an important role in the day-to-day running of our busy press office, working closely with journalists, stakeholders and colleagues across the business. From identifying media opportunities and drafting content to monitoring industry developments and supporting policy communications, you'll gain hands-on experience across a wide variety of communications activities.

This is a role where no two days are the same. You'll be encouraged to contribute ideas, take ownership of your work and build strong relationships with colleagues and media contacts alike.

Though this is a varied role, your key tasks will include:

  • Supporting the delivery of integrated campaigns spanning PR, public affairs, marketing, digital and design activities.
  • Helping to run the firm's press office, responding to media enquiries and building relationships with journalists.
  • Assisting with the development and execution of PR plans across a range of business areas.
  • Working with social media colleagues and spokespeople to maximise the impact of PR and policy content.
  • Monitoring industry trends, policy developments and current affairs to identify media opportunities and news hooks.
  • Drafting press releases, commentary, articles, social media content and other communications materials.
  • Supporting media monitoring, analysis and reporting activity.
  • Assisting with political stakeholder engagement activity and related communications.
  • Maintaining the firm's online media centre and policy hub.
  • Building relationships with senior experts across the business and developing new media contacts.

To enjoy and succeed in the role, you will have:

  • A genuine interest in communications, media relations, public affairs and current affairs.
  • A passion for creating engaging content and communicating complex topics clearly and effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • The confidence to build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and work collaboratively across teams.
  • The ability to quickly understand complex issues, identify newsworthy angles and turn them into compelling content.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
  • Confidence to engage with and pitch stories to the media.
  • A proactive, positive and self-motivated approach, with a willingness to learn and develop.
  • A collaborative mindset and a commitment to contributing to the success of the wider team.
  • An interest in financial services, pensions or personal finance would be advantageous, although not essential.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
