Junior Python Developer
Remote | Permanent | £25,000–£35,000
Nigel Frank International is working with a growing trading technology business to recruit a Junior Python Developer.
This is a great opportunity for an entry-level, graduate, or junior developer to work on the software behind live trading strategies. You will join a small technical team, work alongside experienced engineers, traders, and researchers, and gradually take ownership of systems and components as your skills develop.
Previous trading experience is not required. The key requirement is strong Python capability and a genuine interest in building reliable, production-quality software.
What you’ll be doing
- Build Python components and shared libraries from designs and specifications created by traders and researchers.
- Extend integrations with trading venues and brokers, including REST and WebSocket APIs.
- Investigate live-system issues, such as dropped connections, unexpected API responses, and data-quality problems.
- Help improve dashboards, logging, and visibility across trading systems.
- Write tests, review code, and improve the areas of the codebase you work on.
- Work closely with senior engineers initially, progressing towards ownership of your own components.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
