Junior Python Developer (m/w/d)
IN SHORT
We are looking for an ambitious Junior Python Developer to join our Metals Trading Technology team. Embedded directly within the trading business, you will work alongside traders, analysts, and experienced developers to build, enhance, and support the applications that underpin the desk's activities.
This is a hands-on software engineering role offering exposure to the full application lifecycle, from development and testing through to production support. You will have the opportunity to develop your technical expertise across the full stack while building a strong understanding of metals markets and commodities trading. The role is ideal for someone who is passionate about technology, excited by AI-assisted engineering, and eager to learn within a high-performing and collaborative environment.
What Will You Do
- Develop, enhance, and maintain applications that support the Metals trading business, contributing across both front-end and back-end technologies.
- Support business-critical production systems by investigating, troubleshooting, and resolving application issues.
- Work closely with traders, analysts, and fellow developers to understand business requirements and deliver effective technology solutions.
- Leverage AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity and accelerate delivery, while validating outputs to ensure quality and reliability.
- Participate in code reviews and adopt engineering best practices, including testing, maintainability, and version control standards.
- Build a strong understanding of metals markets, trading workflows, and business processes to help deliver better technical solutions.
- Take ownership of assigned tasks, collaborating effectively with the team to deliver work to a high standard.
- Continuously develop your technical capabilities and professional skills through hands-on experience, feedback, and mentorship.

What Will You Bring
- A strong foundation in Python 3.12+, gained through academic studies, personal projects, internships, bootcamps, or early professional experience.
- Exposure to JavaScript and/or TypeScript and an interest in developing across the full technology stack.
- Familiarity with SQL databases and an understanding of how applications store, manage, and retrieve data; exposure to MongoDB or other NoSQL technologies is advantageous.
- Experience with, or a desire to learn, data-processing libraries such as Pandas and NumPy.
- An interest in Artificial Intelligence, Large Language Models (LLMs), and AI-augmented software development.
- Familiarity with Git-based version control and an appreciation for testing, code reviews, and software quality practices.
- A proactive, can-do attitude, strong learning agility, and the resilience and ownership mindset needed to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills, coupled with a genuine enthusiasm for learning about metals markets, commodities trading, and the wider energy sector.
