This role sits within the Agricultural Trading department, supporting the development of quantitative trading strategies and analytical capabilities across the Agricultural business.

The Agricultural Trading department combines deep discretionary market expertise with modern quantitative research, technology and data science to provide liquidity, manage risk and identify trading opportunities across global agricultural markets. The desk has direct access to the major agricultural futures and options exchanges and is investing in the continued expansion of its systematic trading capabilities through the application of statistical modelling, alternative datasets, automation and advanced analytics.

Role Summary

An analytical, curious and ambitious individual with a strong interest in financial markets, quantitative research and agricultural commodities. Joining a front-office trading team that combines discretionary trading expertise with systematic research and modern data science techniques, the successful candidate will support the development of quantitative trading strategies, analytical tools and research infrastructure across the Agricultural Trading desk. The role offers significant exposure to agricultural markets, statistical research and systematic trading, while working closely with experienced traders to develop innovative, data-driven approaches to trading and risk management.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the Agricultural desk's systematic research programme through the development of quantitative trading signals, analytical tools and statistical models.
  • Assist in the development, testing and implementation of systematic trading strategies.
  • Build, maintain and improve research dashboards, analytical tools and trading infrastructure.
  • Support discretionary traders by analysing existing strategies and identifying opportunities for enhancement through quantitative methods.
  • Perform statistical analysis, data exploration and back testing of trading ideas.
  • Work closely with traders, technology and research teams to improve workflows and research efficiency.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the desk's quantitative research framework and data capabilities.
  • Ensuring compliance with the company’s regulatory requirements under the FCA.
  • Adhere to the operational risk framework for your role ensuring that all regulatory or company determined parameters are complied with.
  • Role model for demonstrating highest level standards of integrity and conduct and reflecting Company Values.
  • At all times complying with the FCA’s Code of Conduct
  • Carrying out regulatory activities under the Marex Financial trading books
  • Liaising with clients in US, UK and EEA clients include banks, hedge funds, market makers, fund managers, institutionals, trading houses and other trading boutiques.
  • To ensure that you are fully aware of and adhere to internal policies that relate to you, your role or any other activities for which you have any level of responsibility
  • To report any breaches of policy to Compliance and/ or your supervisor as required
  • To escalate risk events immediately to provide input to risk management processes, as required.

Competencies, Skills And Experience

Competencies

  • Strong quantitative and analytical mindset.
  • Naturally curious with a passion for financial markets and systematic research.
  • Comfortable working with large datasets and solving complex analytical problems.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality research.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced trading environment.

  • Strategic collaborator with insight and agility, able to anticipate future challenges, ensuring operational effectiveness

Skills And Experience

  • Degree from a world class University in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, or another quantitative discipline.
  • Excellent problem-solving and numerical skills.
  • Experience using Python for data analysis, quantitative research or modelling.
  • Understanding of statistical techniques and quantitative research methodologies.
  • An interest in financial markets and/or agriculture.
  • Knowledge of futures and options markets is advantageous, but not essential.
  • Experience working with SQL and data visualisation tools is advantageous.
