Freshfields is seeking a Junior Risk Adviser to join our Practice Protection team within the Legal Department. This is an exciting opportunity to develop your expertise in risk management, governance and compliance while working on matters that help protect and support the firm globally.

You'll be part of a collaborative team that works with colleagues across Legal, Finance, HR, Information Security and other Business Services functions to identify, assess and manage a broad range of risks. The role offers excellent exposure to strategic projects, senior stakeholders and the operation of risk frameworks within an international professional services environment.

About the role

As a Junior Risk Adviser, you will support a wide range of risk, governance, regulatory, insurance and claims activities. You'll help deliver key risk initiatives, monitor risk trends, support reporting and contribute to building a strong culture of risk awareness across the firm.

Key responsibilities include:

Enterprise Risk Management

  • Supporting the operation and ongoing development of the firm's enterprise risk management framework.
  • Assisting with risk assessments, reviews and risk-related projects.
  • Monitoring risk mitigation actions, key risk indicators and other risk management activities.
  • Conducting research on emerging regulatory, technological, geopolitical and market risks.
  • Preparing materials for management, committees and governance forums.

  • Supporting the review and maintenance of firmwide policies, standards and guidance.
  • Assisting with regulatory compliance and monitoring activities.
  • Coordinating the external appointments process.
  • Helping to develop risk communications, training and awareness initiatives.
  • Supporting continuous improvement and lessons-learned activities.

Claims, Insurance and Reporting

  • Assisting with professional liability claims and related matters.
  • Supporting the firm's global insurance programme renewals.
  • Maintaining risk, claims and insurance records and reporting.
  • Producing management information and analysing data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Contributing to dashboards, risk metrics and reporting tools.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Working closely with colleagues across the business to gather information and coordinate activities.
  • Supporting meetings, workshops and wider risk initiatives.
  • Providing coordination and administrative support to global risk stakeholders.

About you

We welcome applications from candidates with a variety of backgrounds and levels of experience.

You may have:

  • Experience in risk, compliance, governance, legal, audit, regulatory or other professional services environments.
  • Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver work to a high standard.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A collaborative approach and confidence building relationships with a range of stakeholders.
  • An interest in risk management, governance, regulation and professional ethics.
