Are you a Security Analyst who enjoys the technical side of cyber security but feels stuck in a cycle of investigations, alert triage, and repetitive firefighting?
Maybe you're already handling some engineering tasks alongside your analyst responsibilities, writing queries, tuning detections, improving Microsoft security tooling, or building automations, but your current role doesn't give you the opportunity to develop as a dedicated Security Engineer.

We're hiring a Security Engineer to join a growing cyber security consultancy, but we're not expecting someone who ticks every box on day one. This role has been designed for someone with strong security foundations and the ambition to develop into a well-rounded security engineer.
You'll work hands-on with Microsoft Defender XDR, Microsoft Sentinel, KQL, vulnerability management, security automation, and incident response, while being supported by experienced engineers who are invested in your development.
Most importantly, where there are gaps in your experience, we'll help you close them. You'll receive a bespoke development plan tailored to your strengths, career goals, and learning objectives, alongside mentoring, training, and certification support to help accelerate your progression.
This is a genuine opportunity to move from Security Operations into Security Engineering and build the skills needed for a long-term technical career.
The Role
As a Security Engineer, you'll help design, implement, and improve security solutions that protect clients from an evolving threat landscape.

Working within a collaborative Security Operations and Engineering team, you'll gain exposure to a range of technologies across the Microsoft Security ecosystem while working directly with clients to enhance their security posture.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting the deployment and optimisation of Microsoft Defender XDR and Microsoft Sentinel
- Creating, tuning, and maintaining detection rules and analytics using KQL
- Assisting with the development of threat detection and monitoring capabilities
- Supporting vulnerability management activities, including vulnerability scanning and remediation recommendations
- Delivering phishing simulation campaigns and security improvement initiatives
- Producing clear, actionable reports and recommendations for clients
- Supporting incident investigations and escalated security events
- Contributing to security automation initiatives using Azure Logic Apps and Microsoft security tooling
- Helping clients improve their Microsoft 365 security posture through security reviews, policy enhancements, and best-practice recommendations
- Working alongside experienced engineers on customer projects and security improvements
What We're Looking For
We're less interested in finding the finished article and more interested in finding someone with the right attitude, aptitude, and desire to learn.
Essential
- Experience working within a Security Analyst, SOC Analyst, Security Operations, or Security Engineering role
- A strong understanding of cyber security fundamentals and security operations
- Exposure to Microsoft security technologies such as Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Sentinel, or Microsoft 365 Security
- Experience investigating security incidents, alerts, or vulnerabilities
- Strong communication skills and an ability to explain technical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences
- A genuine passion for cyber security and continuous learning
- Eligibility to obtain SC Clearance

Desirable
- Experience with KQL or a willingness to develop expertise in it
- Exposure to vulnerability management tools and processes
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Defender XDR or Microsoft Sentinel
- Experience with PowerShell, Python, JSON, YAML, ARM, or Bicep
- Exposure to Azure Logic Apps, Azure Functions, or security automation
- Relevant certifications such as SC-200, AZ-500, Security+, CySA+, or similar
