Junior Shift Technician - Data Centre
The Opportunity
We are recruiting for a Junior Shift Technician to join an established data centre operator, working in-house at a critical facility. This is an excellent opportunity for an electrically or mechanically minded individual looking to develop their career within the data centre sector. You will work alongside an experienced engineering team, supporting the day-to-day operation and maintenance of critical infrastructure to ensure maximum uptime and reliability. Full training and development opportunities will be available for someone looking to build their technical knowledge and progress within a critical environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the planned preventative maintenance and reactive maintenance of critical building services.
- Support the operation and monitoring of critical infrastructure, including UPS systems, generators, chillers, HVAC and electrical distribution.
- Carry out routine site inspections and plant room checks, identifying and reporting faults or abnormalities.
- Respond to alarms and assist with troubleshooting technical issues.
- Support senior engineers during maintenance activities and equipment testing.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, operational logs and technical documentation.
- Follow site procedures, risk assessments, method statements and permit-to-work systems.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with health and safety requirements.
- Support incident response procedures and help maintain the resilience of critical systems.
- Work collaboratively with the wider engineering team to maintain service continuity and operational standards.

Requirements
- An electrical or mechanical qualification, such as an NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent, would be advantageous.
- Previous experience in maintenance, building services, facilities management or an engineering environment.
- A genuine interest in developing a career within the data centre industry.
- Basic understanding of electrical or mechanical systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to learning.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
- Willingness to work a shift pattern and undertake further technical training.
- A strong commitment to health and safety and operational procedures.
