Dulwich Satellite Unit
Location: Tessa Jowell Health Centre
About the Unit
Dulwich Satellite Unit is located at Tessa Jowell Health Centre. Our unit comprises a diverse team and promotes personal and professional development. You will be involved in assisting the unit manager to drive forward quality patient-centred compassionate care as well as assisting and supporting the team to attain efficiency and sustain standards.
This is an ideal opportunity for a Band 5 nurse to utilise and enhance their mentoring skills, leadership qualities, time management, and independent working.
Responsibilities
- Assisting the unit manager to drive forward quality patient-centred compassionate care.
- Supporting the team to attain efficiency and sustain standards.
- Having 2 weeks supernumerary.
- Working alongside senior nurses and practice development nurses.
- Assigning an Assessor and Supervisor.
Skills and Requirements
As a Band 5 staff nurse, you are expected to:
- Understand the principle of haemodialysis including connecting and disconnecting patients on haemodialysis.
- Commence patients on haemodialysis and discontinue treatment in a safe manner.
- Line and prime haemodialysis machines, troubleshoot complications, input data, and strip the machines.
- Learn, assess fistulas including cannulations.
- Provide independent holistic care to the patients.
- Assist and support senior nurses in the daily smooth running of the unit.
- Clean equipment like dialysis machines, beds, and tables.
- Monitor patient observations and document findings.
- Report to senior nurses of any deviation from normal.
- Support and mentor healthcare assistants, including appraisals.
- Perform AVF assessments and cannulation.
- Connect and disconnect to the machine for AVF and AVG patients only.
- Prioritise patient care based on individual needs.
- Check the water plant systems daily and report appropriately.
- Involve in patient education and support any ongoing research studies in the unit.
- Participate in the assessment, planning, and evaluation of care.
- Maintain effective communication within the team at all times.
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
- Ensure and promote the trust policies and protocols are adhered.
- Participate in team meetings as required by your team leader.
- Ensure your competency documents are signed and dated.
