Job Overview
An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced and motivated Band 6 Junior Sister/Charge Nurse to join Ward 3 Gastroenterology at Wexham Park Hospital. This role is ideal for a passionate nurse who is committed to delivering excellent patient care, getting the fundamentals of nursing right, and supporting colleagues to develop their skills and confidence.
Ward 3 is a 24-bedded medical ward caring for male and female patients with a range of acute medical conditions, with a specialist focus on gastroenterology. The successful candidate will play a key role in leading and supporting the nursing team, maintaining high standards of safe, effective and compassionate care, and contributing to a positive patient experience.
This is an excellent opportunity to develop and enhance leadership and clinical skills within an acute hospital setting while gaining specialist gastroenterology knowledge. The Trust provides access to leadership development programmes and support to help you succeed in the role and progress your career.

Main Duties of the Job
- Responsible and accountable for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care without supervision.
- To lead and monitor the performance and standards of care within the Nursing Team.
- To take the lead on projects as appropriate.
- In conjunction with the senior sister and other Charge Nurses, facilitate the development of the service and personal development of all nursing staff within the clinical area of responsibility.
- To deputise for the Senior Sister in their absence, attending appropriate meetings, maintaining an organised and structured workforce.

Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant experience at Band 5 in an Acute setting
- Evidence of up-to-date standards of clinical practice
Desirable criteria
- Experience of staff development
- Demonstrates an understanding of the principles of evidence-based practice
Skills & Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Awareness of current professional nursing issues
- Interest in Primary/Named Nursing, Nursing Research and Health promotion
- Excellent leadership skills
- Good, effective interpersonal & communication skills (written & verbal)
- Evidence of effective change management skills
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- NMC Registration
- Evidence of recent Continued Practice Development
Desirable criteria
- Nursing degree or working towards a degree
- Teaching certificate
