Main Duties of the Job
GICU is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity for highly motivated, friendly, and enthusiastic nurses to join our expanding service. This post requires individuals to cover a full range of shifts (nights and days) and have flexibility to cover any day of the week.

The General Intensive Care Unit (GICU) at UHS is a 30 bedded facility caring for patients with diverse and complex injuries and illnesses, delivering high-quality nursing care to those requiring level 3 and level 2 care.
As part of a dynamic multidisciplinary team, you will provide expert care to critically ill patients and their families in a fast-paced and rewarding environment.
The unit is committed to delivering excellent patient care while supporting staff development, education, and professional growth.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
You should be able to work effectively in pressurised situations with maturity, motivation, and enthusiasm.
You will demonstrate strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and support a team in an evolving environment. Compassion, commitment, and a dedication to delivering safe, high-quality care to patients and their relatives are essential.
You Will Need To Have
- NMC registration as a Registered Nurse
- 9 months post-qualification experience in Critical Care following completion of a recognised Critical Care qualification.
- Evidence of supporting learners in practice experience.
- Evidence of management experience
- Clinical and Leadership Ability
- Up to date experience of working in a Critical Care setting
- Good interpersonal, communication skills
The Successful Candidate Will Be Required To
- To take charge of the Unit on a regular basis in the absence of a senior nurse.
- To assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised care, providing support to other members of the multidisciplinary team.
- To lead, motivate and supervise the professional work of nursing staff at Band 5 and below, exercising good leadership and control.

Qualifications, Knowledge And Experience
Essential criteria
- Qualified Nurse (Degree/Diploma)
- Registered nurse on appropriate part of the register
- Significant post registration experience / qualification / training, including experience and knowledge within relevant speciality
- Ward management experience
- Knowledge of current issues within acute Health Service
- Experience in an acute hospital setting
- Provide evidence of supporting / managing a range of learners in practice
- Provide evidence of supporting colleagues to promote effective learning in practice
- Ability to demonstrate clinical decision making and judgement
Desirable criteria
- Experience in handling adverse events and complaints
- Appraisal skills
- Act in the role of Practice Assessor or supporting the progression of learners / supporting challenges as needed
- Some insight into budget management
