Junior Security Operations Center (SOC) Analyst Internship Program at EncryptEdge Labs

(Remote Position)

The Junior SOC Analyst Internship Program at EncryptEdge Labs offers aspiring cybersecurity professionals hands-on experience in monitoring, defending against, and mitigating cyber threats. Over an eight-week period, interns will engage in core SOC operations, including threat landscape analysis, log management, incident response, vulnerability management, and compliance reporting.

Participants will:

  • Gain exposure to SOC tools like ELK Stack and Wazuh for log analysis and security monitoring.
  • Develop skills in advanced incident handling and forensic analysis.
  • Complete a capstone project and deliver a final presentation showcasing their proficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Learn and implement SOC techniques, including:
    • Log management and security incident event management (SIEM).
    • Traffic and log file analysis (using ELK, Splunk, Wazuh).
    • Threat intelligence, vulnerability scanning, and compliance reporting.
  • Engage in incident response exercises, focusing on:
    • Forensic investigation and SOC process optimization.
    • Mitigation strategies for common threats (e.g., phishing, malware, ransomware).
  • Collaborate on a capstone project with mentorship from cybersecurity professionals.
  • Present findings in a professional, structured format at the program’s conclusion.

Core Attributes

  • Strong passion for cybersecurity, with a focus on security operations and threat detection.

Educational Background

  • Preferred: Degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, or a related field (not mandatory).

Foundational Knowledge

  • Basic understanding of:
    • Networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, firewall basics).
    • Operating systems (Windows/Linux environments).
  • Familiarity with SOC workflows, log analysis, and core cybersecurity principles (optional but advantageous).

Preferred Certifications

  • Splunk Fundamentals 1
  • TryHackMe SOC Level 1 Pathway
  • AlienVault OSSIM Training

Key Skills & Experience

  • Log analysis (identifying and interpreting security events).
  • Alert triaging and incident response prioritization.
  • Knowledge of common cyber threat vectors (e.g., phishing, advanced persistent threats).
  • Tool proficiency (hands-on experience with the following is a plus):
    • SIEM platforms: Splunk, Graylog, QRadar.
    • Endpoint monitoring: OSSEC, Wazuh.
    • Threat intelligence platforms: Recorded Future, AlienVault OTX.
  • Logistical readiness:
    • Reliable computer and internet connectivity.
    • Ability to set up a secure work environment (guided by program resources).
