Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The Team & Role

You will join a full stack engineering team working in an Agile Scrum environment, delivering incrementally in sprints and taking part in sprint planning, stand ups and retrospectives together. Our stack spans MySQL and PostgreSQL for our databases, Ruby on Rails and Symfony on the backend, Vue.js on the web frontend and React Native for mobile, all managed through Git and GitHub. Our systems handle thousands of requests per minute across databases holding hundreds of millions of records, so scalability sits at the heart of how we design and build. This is a junior level opportunity: whether you have a computer science or related background, or you are a self-taught coder with strong programming knowledge, we are more interested in your grounding in object-oriented development and your appetite to learn than in years of industry experience.

You will be joining the Wellbeing team specifically. Within 3 months, we would expect you to have the capacity to contribute to the Wellbeing stack, the Better Care API, the Wellbeing Backend, and parts of the Wellbeing mobile app, working comfortably with JavaScript, TypeScript and Ruby (Ruby on Rails). Within 6 months, you would be contributing to the wider application stack individually, giving reasonably precise estimates, and well embedded into the Wellbeing team: taking part in planning discussions, giving informative code reviews to peers, and learning our deployment procedure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute across the stack, from database to backend to frontend, as part of a full stack engineering team.
  • Take part in pair programming, code reviews and automated testing as standard parts of the development process.
  • Design and build with scalability in mind, working on systems that serve thousands of requests per minute against databases with hundreds of millions of records.
  • Work with both established and new technologies, languages and frameworks as the product and platform evolve, and grow into a well-rounded developer along the way.

Requirements

  • Experience: A portfolio across object-oriented languages: JavaScript, TypeScript, PHP and Ruby are all great, and Java, C++, Rust or Go work just as well. Little or no industry experience is fine, this is a genuine opportunity to build it.
  • Technical/Functional Alignment: A Computer Science or adjacent degree (Maths, Physics and Electrical Engineering all count), or relevant experience in place of one. A good understanding of what the software engineering discipline looks like day to day, and a solid grounding in object-oriented development.
  • Sector Interest: A genuine curiosity toward computer technology, ideally backed by personal projects or things you have built for yourself. Tinkerers are exactly who we are looking for.
  • Mindset: A genuine willingness to learn, paired with a collaborative approach to problem solving.

What High Performance Looks Like

  • Always visible and collaborative.
  • Uses appropriate language in code reviews and is willing to engage personally.
  • Asks questions whenever in doubt, or when they find something, they do not know.
  • Warns about risks, and signals honestly if things are not going to plan.

Nourish Benefits

  • Annual Leave: 25 days basic + Public Holidays + an extra day for your Birthday.
  • Service-Related Leave: 1 extra day for each completed year of service (up to 5 additional days).
  • Health & Wellbeing: Private Medical Insurance (including a personal health fund), Health & Wellbeing platform with 24/7 GP access, and an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP).
  • Family & Security: Enhanced Maternity Leave, Group Life Assurance, and Pension Contribution.
  • Growth & Connection: Regular career reviews, Referral Bonus schemes, and social events throughout the year.

All positions at Nourish are subject to a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, references, and receipt of appropriate Right to Work documents.

Nourish is proud to be an equal opportunities employer and we actively seek and embrace differences in thinking, experience, ethnicity, age, gender, faith, personalities, and styles.
