Join the Team as a Cloud-Native Junior Software Engineer!
We are seeking a Junior Software Engineer - GCP Cloud to join a leading organisation driving large-scale cloud transformation initiatives. This is an exciting opportunity to work at enterprise scale, designing and operating cloud-native platforms, mentoring engineering teams, and shaping the future of cloud technology adoption across the business.
As a technical contributor, you will play a key role in architecting, building, and operating resilient solutions on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), while influencing engineering standards, best practices, and strategic cloud initiatives.
What You'll Do
Cloud Architecture & Engineering
- Design and deliver scalable, secure, and highly available cloud-native applications and platforms on GCP.
- Attend to architectural decisions and produce design artefacts including RFCs, ADRs, and architecture diagrams.
- Build and operate resilient services aligned with enterprise cloud, security, and compliance standards.
- Evaluate emerging technologies, products, and vendors to support strategic technology initiatives.

Kubernetes & Platform Engineering
- Design, develop, and operate Kubernetes platforms at scale.
- Build custom Kubernetes Operators, Controllers, and Custom Resource Definitions (CRDs) using tools such as Kubebuilder or Operator SDK.
- Develop cloud-native control planes, admission controllers, webhooks, and automation frameworks.
- Drive best practices around Kubernetes security, observability, multi-tenancy, and operational excellence.
Engineering Excellence
- Develop high-quality production code and champion coding standards through peer reviews and mentorship.
- Drive CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, and software delivery best practices.
- Improve reliability, performance, monitoring, and observability across critical services.
What We're Looking For
Essential Skills & Experience
- 3+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Strong expertise in Golang and/or Python.
- Proven experience designing and operating cloud-native solutions on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Kubernetes engineering experience, including custom operators and platform automation.
- Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
- Strong understanding of software architecture, distributed systems, application resiliency, and security.
- Experience working within Agile engineering environments.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Highly Desirable
- Infrastructure-as-Code experience with Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK.
- Observability and monitoring experience with Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or similar platforms.
- GCP certifications (Developer, Solutions Architect, Security).
- Knowledge of cloud security, threat modelling, compliance, and incident response.
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or similar.
- Financial Services experience and understanding of regulated environments.
