Located in the heart of Farringdon, directly opposite the historic Smithfield Market, Smiths of Smithfield is a unique four-floor hospitality venue combining restaurants, bars, private dining, and events under one roof. Each floor has its own identity and kitchen, from the premium The Grill and seafood-led No.3 Rooftop, to private dining and events spaces and the lively Ground Floor Bar. With multiple kitchens and a wide variety of service styles, Smiths offers chefs the opportunity to work within a large, diverse, and fast-paced Central London operation.
Job Description
We are looking for an ambitious Junior Sous Chef to join the senior kitchen team and play an important role in the day-to-day running of the Ground Floor Bar kitchen. This is a hands-on leadership position suited to a chef who is ready to take the next step in their career. You will work closely with the Sous Chef and Head Chef to lead the kitchen team through busy services, maintain consistently high food standards, and ensure the kitchen operates efficiently and professionally.

You will have responsibility for running sections, supporting and developing junior members of the team, maintaining food quality and presentation, and helping to manage the kitchen in the absence of the senior chefs. With the volume and variety of the operation, the role offers excellent experience in high-volume service, team leadership, stock control, food safety, GP awareness, menu execution, and kitchen organisation. For the right chef, Smiths provides a great platform to develop their leadership skills and progress within a large London hospitality operation.

What We Look For
We are looking for an existing Sous Chef or Senior CDP looking for their next step, who considers themselves as a natural leader with a passion and flare for producing quality fresh food in an environment that makes people feel welcome. As the successful Sous Chef, you will:

- Have experience championing excellent service through quality food
- Demonstrate a passion for leading and developing a team
- Be an active hands-on Chef with excellent communication skills
- Be responsible and able to manage the kitchen staff rota, training, and all health and safety effectively at all times
- Work alongside your Head Chef, demonstrating your creativity and ability by helping to design and deliver new dishes for our menus and daily specials
- Demonstrate great planning and organizational skills, necessary to maintain effective controls with regard to both GP and labor
- Have a proactive approach to driving sales and delivering growth, through engagement with both kitchen and front-of-house teams
