Junior System Administrator
Guildford, Surrey
Circa £30,000-£35,000 plus benefits

My client is looking for a Junior System Administrator to join a growing technology business based in Guildford, Surrey. This is an excellent opportunity for someone at the beginning of their systems administration career.
You'll work closely with an experienced Systems Administrator and report to the IT Manager, helping to maintain the company's internal IT infrastructure and customer systems. From Windows and Linux servers to virtual machines, networking, and user support.
This is more than a traditional IT support role. You'll have the opportunity to get involved across servers, virtualization, Windows, Linux, networking, security, backups, infrastructure, and user support, giving you broad exposure to the technologies and responsibilities needed to develop a successful career in systems administration.
The successful candidate must be willing and able to obtain UK security clearance.

The Role
As a Junior System Administrator, you'll play an important role in keeping IT systems secure, reliable, and running smoothly.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Deploying software and administering user groups and operating system policies across the IT network
- Monitoring services, applications, and hardware and identifying and resolving issues
- Installing, configuring, and maintaining software, hardware, networking, and application components
- Diagnosing and troubleshooting hardware, software, and networking problems
- Managing secure data storage, backups, and data recovery
- Implementing security best practices to help protect against cyber-attacks and security breaches
- Supporting compliance with ISO 27001 and Cyber Essentials Plus
- Documenting internal IT processes and systems
- Providing technical support to employees and external clients
- Setting up employee workstations and IT equipment
- Supporting ad-hoc IT projects and tasks as required

Essential
- A-levels or equivalent, with strong IT, English, and Maths skills
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Basic networking knowledge
- Experience managing Windows PCs/Servers within an Active Directory environment
- Experience with Linux, particularly Debian/Ubuntu package management, web servers, NFS, and SSH
- An understanding of system security and business continuity
- Basic scripting experience in Bash and/or PowerShell
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks
- Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a team
Desirable
- Full, clean UK driving license
- Experience with PKI and certificate management
