The Customer Engineering group

The Customer Engineering group is seeking a highly motivated Jnr technician to join its Heanor Applications Centre team. Working within Syensqo’s commercial group, the position offers the opportunity to help evaluate new materials technology collaboratively with the product form development teams and develop new process technology for the Defense, Aerospace and automotive industry.

The successful candidate will need to:

  • Comply with Syenqo HSE standards, procedures and 5S guidelines
  • Contribute to the continued development of HSE standard and procedures
  • Execute the manufacture of composite test panels and complex geometries under supervision and or guidance
  • Perform trials and experiments focused at assessing a materials process ability
  • Characterise composite materials under supervision and or guidance
  • Collect and document information and process data to perform basic data analysis
  • Provide a summary of executed tasks and experiments in a basic written format
  • Work as part of a global department and in cross-functional teams
  • Undertake the necessary training in order to become a competent user of equipment and hardware within the facility

The successful candidate must have the following attributes and skills:

  • Interest in the processing and manufacture of composite materials or similar field
  • Demonstrate their ability to overcome obstacles and to work with limited supervision
  • Express an interest in their daily tasks and a desire to continually develop and learn
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to form new relationships
  • A positive ‘can do’ attitude
  • Good time management and flexible approach working hours as required
  • Carry out task upon own initiative, whilst contributing to the wider team
  • Diligence and attention to detail
  • Basic IT and good written communication skills. Working towards greater level of software competency relating to equipment and hardware

The successful candidate should have:

  • Practical experience with composite materials. In particular a basic understanding of laminate lay-up and manufacturing methods with the use of dry or pre-impregnated materials
  • A basic understanding of material characteristics and properties of materials
  • Familiarity with typical composite testing and evaluation equipment
  • Familiarity with automation equipment and its deployment

Must have Education:

  • ‘O’ levels / GCSE at ‘C’ or higher in Sciences, Maths and English Language
  • Relevant A-Levels, BTEC, National Diploma or HND.

Optional Education:

  • Degree
