The UI/UX Designer & Front-End Developer is responsible for designing and building intuitive, visually consistent, and high-performance user interfaces for complex, data-driven systems. This hybrid role combines creative UX design with front-end engineering skills to deliver interfaces that support operators, analysts, and mission-critical workflows. The designer/developer collaborates closely with product, backend, and delivery teams to ensure seamless integration between UI components and distributed architectures.

- Create wireframes, prototypes, and user flows for new features and enhancements.
- Conduct UX reviews, heuristic evaluations, and lightweight usability testing.
- Maintain and evolve the design system to ensure consistency across products.
- Work with product managers to refine requirements into user-centred solutions.
- Ensure the UI accurately and intuitively reflects system state, telemetry and mission metrics.
Front-End Development
- Build responsive, performant UI components using modern frameworks (Vue preferred).
- Implement real-time visualisation elements such as charts, maps, timelines, and mission dashboards.
- Integrate UI with backend services, REST APIs, and event-driven data streams.
- Ensure cross-browser compatibility, accessibility, and mobile/tablet responsiveness.
- Collaborate with backend and systems engineers to ensure accurate data representation.
- Develop automated unit, integration and end to end tests.
- Use browser developer tools to debug layout, performance, and network issues.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
