Junior Web Application Developer

Map Room are supporting a customer to identify a Junior Web Application Developer to support the design, development, testing, and maintenance of web-based enterprise software.

The role sits within a core engineering function and reports to the Development Team Manager. The position focuses primarily on development in F# and C#, contributing to both enhancements of existing systems and the development of new applications.

The customer's key accounts are linked to charities and support of the public and voluntary sectors, so we will be looking for someone who has an understanding and empathy in relation to challenging social issues.

Key responsibilities

  • Analyse technical and business requirements from specifications, user groups, or clients
  • Contribute to the specification of systems, features, and processes
  • Develop new functionality for existing platforms and participate in building new systems
  • Investigate and resolve technical issues once escalated
  • Promote development best practices to maintain high software quality
  • Write reports and queries against SQL databases
  • Support the internal support team when developer input is required
  • Ensure software is correctly packaged and delivered
  • Contribute to other tasks as required within a small engineering team environment

Requirements

  • 2:1 or First-class degree in a science or engineering discipline
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts and development approaches clearly
  • Interest in functional programming, particularly F#
  • Strong learning agility and willingness to pick up new technologies quickly
  • Proactive approach to problem-solving and development
  • Curiosity about how systems work and why technical decisions are made
