Electrical Design Engineer - Building Services

📍 Ipswich (Hybrid Working Available)

About the Role

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Electrical Design Engineer to join our growing Building Services team based in Ipswich. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a varied portfolio of projects across the education and residential sectors, contributing to the delivery of innovative, efficient, and sustainable designs.

You will be involved in projects from initial concept through to completion, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and engaging directly with clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design electrical systems for building services projects, including:
    • Lighting and emergency lighting
    • Power distribution
    • Small power and containment
    • Fire alarm and life safety systems
    • Data and communications systems
  • Produce calculations, specifications, technical reports, and drawings
  • Support projects through all RIBA design stages
  • Undertake site surveys, inspections, and client meetings
  • Coordinate designs with mechanical engineers, architects, and contractors
  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations (e.g., BS 7671, Building Regulations)
  • Contribute to low-energy and sustainable design solutions

About You

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical or Building Services Engineering
  • Experience in electrical design within the built environment
  • Exposure to education and/or residential projects is advantageous.
  • Experience using design software such as AutoCAD, Revit (BIM), Amtech, Dialux, or similar
  • Good working knowledge of UK standards and regulations
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Working towards Chartership (IEng or CEng)
  • Interest in sustainable design / low carbon technologies
  • Experience in BIM environments
